On the sixth day of your 10-day Morocco tour from Tangier, you will explore the Merzouga Desert after breakfast.
First, you will take a 4×4 desert safari to discover the hidden beauty of the Sahara. You will drive across the dunes and follow part of the old Rally Dakar route, which makes the experience more exciting and adventurous.
After that, you will visit a nomad family and enjoy a traditional glass of tea with them. This visit gives you a closer look at the simple lifestyle of the people who live in the desert.
Next, you will continue to Khamlia village, a small village near Merzouga. Khamlia is known for its Gnawa music and rich cultural history. While you are there, you will enjoy a live Gnawa music performance and learn more about this special musical tradition.
Then, you will visit Lake Srij, a seasonal lake located near the golden dunes of Merzouga. When the lake has water, it becomes an important stop for migratory birds traveling between Europe and Africa.
Around midday, you will have lunch at a local restaurant. You will also have the chance to try Berber pizza, a traditional local dish from the region.
After lunch, you will have some free time to relax. Later, before sunset, you will go to the camel area and start your camel ride toward the desert camp.
On the way to the camp, you will stop in the middle of the high dunes to watch the sunset. After that, you will continue your camel trek to the camp.
Finally, you will arrive at your desert camp, where you will enjoy an authentic nomadic night in the Sahara. The camp is fully equipped with the basic comforts you need. In the evening, you will have a freshly prepared local dinner. Then, after dinner, you can enjoy Berber music, singing, dancing, and stories around the campfire under the starry desert sky.
